Make Your Credit Card Work For You

Who doesn’t want to be rewarded for shopping? Especially during the holiday season when we’re filling our digital and physical shopping carts with TONS of GIFTS! That’s why it’s important to have an extra “REWARDING” Rewards Card for holiday shopping.

1.) Pick The Right Card

Take stock of what you’re spending money on during the holidays. Maybe it’s presents, decor, or traveling. We recommend that you pick a Rewards Credit Card based on your purchase habits.¬†For example, if you’re traveling, then pick a rewards card where you earn airline miles and extra points at gas stations. If you’re a Target shopper, see if your card offers a special deal with that store, then check to see what coupons are available. You earn points and save money this way! If you’re a Launch VISA Platinum Rewards cardholder, enjoy our 3-2-1 Blast Off promotion. You can earn 3 points for every dollar spent on gas purchases, 2 points for every dollar spent on online purchases, and 1 point for every dollar spent on everyday purchases until December 31st.

2. Open A New Card

Many rewards cards offer new member bonuses for spending “x” amount during a certain amount of time. What better time than the holidays to spend towards earning that welcome bonus, so you can receive back some of what you spent. When you become a Launch VISA Platinum Rewards cardholder, you enjoy a special 2.90% APR* introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers for the first 60 days.

3. Check Your Rewards Card’s Shopping Platform

This is a great spot to start when using a rewards card to shop online, because you may receive additional points when using the shopping platform your card is connected to. The shopping platform will be a link from within your card account when you are logged into your digital banking platform. Your Rewards card may also offer monthly or quarterly promotions with shops on the platform.

4. Trade Points For Gift Cards

Trade in your hard-earned points for gift cards and give those as gifts. According to the National Retail Federation, gift cards are one of the most popular items to give. This is also a good idea if your points are expiring soon. You can then use the gift cards towards your holiday shopping.

5. Use Loyalty Cards Instead of Store Cards

It can be tempting to say “YES” when a cashier asks you to apply for their store rewards card and receive 20% off your purchase, but it’s not always a good idea. These usually result in a hard pull and new account on your credit report. The sign-up bonuses you receive from other cards will mostly likely amount to more than a store card’s offer. Instead, sign up for their loyalty card where you can receive discounts for your birthday and events throughout the year.
